Meet Daniel Liu who returned to Great Goals in September 2021. Born and raised in Chennai to two Chinese parents, he’s always been into playing and running around more than sitting still and quiet(except when reading stories), so when his church said he was too old to play in a football camp, he joined as a coach. He’s never looked back since then. He holds an AFC D license.

You chose to be a football coach because….?
I liked football and I was too old to join a camp at the time, so I joined as an assistant coach and went on to keep coaching from that time on, till now.
Which is your favourite drill and why?
4(A) v 4(D) v 4(A) because it can be used for coaching defense, for attack, for transition, for passing, for receiving, for quick thinking, for creativity, etc, and be used for multiple age groups and all will have fun with the drill and the many different variations that it can be used with.
What is your favourite moment coaching a class?
When the students manage to pick up the lesson, and successfully perform the exercise and celebrate it with them.
Who is your coaching idol and why?
Joel Aaron, because he was one of the first people when I started coaching who taught me the meaning of a complete coach, not just a coach on the field in regards to the skills and drills, but a life coach as well.
What  is your philosophy as a coach?
You need to love and enjoy your sport to be able to properly coach others, so that you develop a similar love of the sport in your students.
What is your favourite thing about Great Goals?
Coaches discussion and learning off each other.
What gives you joy?
Playing football, reading novels, playing video games.
What’s your favourite tool to motivate a player?

Great Goals is….
..a great place to grow as a football player/coach with a love for the game.
